Where is Gibson Square?
Home of the Iowa City Book Festival
Gibson Square is the greenspace directly south of the UI Main Library on the University of Iowa campus, on the corner of Burlington and Madison Streets in downtown Iowa City.
The square is named after Dick Gibson, who was both the University of Iowa’s Fencing Coach beginning in 1968 and Director of the Facilities Services Group beginning in 1996. The Gibson Square fence was constructed and completed by using work from Iowa Prison Industries of Anamosa.
